Shiatsu is a highly respected holistic therapywhich originated thousands of years ago in Japan. It combines the ancient wisdom of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) with modern understanding of the human body from current research on health, physiology and psychology. 


A treatment can be both relaxing and invigorating and helps you feel a deeper sense of well-being in mind, body and heart. You remain fully clothed throughout, usually lying on a treatment couch, a comfortable futon on the floor or, if preferred, sitting on a massage chair.


Shiatsu is beneficial for men and women of all ages. You can enjoy shiatsu, simply as a deeply calming treat. It can also help you with a wide range of common conditions offering relief from both acute and chronic symptoms.

Shiatsu can also be an invaluable stabling influence during times of stress, serious illness, grief and any significant life event such as changes in family circumstances, moving home or changing jobs.  I have particular experience in treating anxiety, depression, phobias, eating disorders and a range of mental health diagnoses.


Each treatment is individually suited to your needs and involves massage, carefully applied pressure, holding and stretching to encourage the flow of energy ('Chi' or 'Qi)' through acupressure points, meridians, muscles and joints.  For more information about this unique therapy, please see this interesting article.

How many treatments should I have?

People use Shiatsu in a variety of ways and it's up to you how often you come and how many sessions you have.  A one-off treatment is very pleasurable and can start to make several beneficial changes.  Many people buy gift vouchers to introduce others to Shiatsu because it's so relaxing.  Most use Shiatsu in an ongoing way, coming about once a month to keep their energy in balance, to support their health and well-being and prevent illness. If you are looking for help with particular symptoms of ill-health (physical, emotional, mental or spiritual), I would advise several sessions on a weekly or fortnightly basis to begin with.  However, if this is not possible for you due to financial or time constraints, it is fine to come for a single session and return when you can.

How should I prepare for a Shiatsu?

It's best not to eat a large meal in the hour before having a treatment.  As you remain fully clothed, wear or bring loose or stretchy clothes (preferably cotton) such as a long  sleeved top and leggings or jogging/pyjama bottoms. Please avoid wearing a skirt, jeans or a belt.  You'll also need a clean pair of warm socks as your temperature can lower slightly as you relax and your breathing and heart rate become more regular.
